My Fiber Projects

My name is  Aimee, I am a senior at TK high taking a Independent study in fiber arts.  Fiber is my favorite area to work in . With fiber their is so much diversity, their is no limit to what you can create. My first experience with the fiber arts was on a 4-h interstate exchange  trip to Minnesota where I stayed with a family that showed lamas, This family used lama wool as well as sheep wool to create may different, while I was staying their my host mother, gale, introduced me to  wet felting  needle felting, needle felting consist of a a special needle that allows you to attach wool roving to a piece of felt.  My first project I created was a needle felted purse. Gale sent me back from Minnesota with all the tools i would need to continue needle felting. I continued to felt and wet felt and my love for it grew. i have taken some classes on felting, done felting projects with 4-h clubs and a retirement home. I love being able to spread my passion for felting thought my community.
the fall after my exchange I took fiber arts at my high school. In the class we where introduced to a variety of different fibers and projects such as  weaving, basket making, paper making and book making. My favorite project  was our final exam which we made visual journal. I had never been exposed to that type of art before, where something didn't have to be neat and perfect to be considered good art. the journal  allowed my imagination to flow and let my emotions  transfer into my journal. This class changed my approach to art and  has influenced my artwork in the classes I have taken since. I am so thankful that i get to take a independent study in this class for my senior year. Fiber arts is my passion and i am excited to get back to it!

During this trimester I plan to work in  three different areas
1. Bookmaking/ Visual Journal
Creating  a 15 page journal that reflects my world

2. Paper Making
Making containers out of handmade paper sewn together

3. Felting
Felting  wool on to silk gauze to create scarves.
